NIEC is the national training institute set up by the Ministry of Education (MOE) to deliver quality training and professional development for early childhood (EC) educators.

With the growing demand for EC services in Singapore, NIEC is well placed to meet the increasing need for quality educators to nurture young children. As EC practitioners and experts, we seek to lead the way in creating robust training systems and programmes for EC educators.

  1. We have the EC capabilities to provide a full range of full certification and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for EC educators at every stage of their career.
    1. Pre-service educators who are either post-secondary students or mid-careerists embarking on their EC journey enjoy unified foundational training through our diploma and certificate courses.
    2. In-service/Existing educators can continue to deepen or upgrade their EC skills with our post-diplomas and CPD courses.

  2. Our students are part of the NIEC fraternity and enjoy cross-campus learning opportunities. Additionally, Pre-Employment Training (PET) students have dual-identity - they are students of both NIEC and the poly/ITE they are in.

  3. NIEC provides quality training for early childhood educators defined by:
    • Highly qualified faculty with knowledge in diverse areas related to EC
    • Practice-oriented learning experiences in authentic environments beyond the classroom
    • A robust curriculum that is informed by national direction and specialist input in various EC areas

  4. We are building our EC capabilities and expertise. Our faculty is continuously being developed to ensure their knowledge and skills remain current and relevant, especially in the areas of:
    • Birth to Three
    • Inclusive Practices/Engagement
    • Mother Tongue Languages
    • Outdoor Learning
    • Personal Mastery
    • Leadership

Additionally, we develop courses to support Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA)’s focus areas in Classroom Management, Working with Families/Parental Engagement and Social Emotional Development.

  5. We work closely with MOE, ECDA and EC operators to ensure that our training reflects the latest EC practices and meets the sector’s evolving needs.

  6. Through our training, we develop confident and competent EC educators who are work-ready, self-directed and reflective practitioners.
